Welcome - About Us

First Presbyterian Church is as warm and inviting as the white sand beaches of Gulf Shores.  Whether you live in South Alabama or are just visiting, you will instantly feel like a local here.

Just like life at the beach, life at First Presbyterian is comfortable and relaxed.  Whether you prefer to come in your Sunday best or in flip flops, whether you're alone or with family or friends, our congregation is looking forward to meeting you this Sunday.

Welcome!

History of First Presbyterian Church of Gulf Shores

In February of 1955 the first Presbyterian worship was held at Gulf Shores in the Community Center.  With a only 30 members, this church grew and in 1973 the original portion of our present sanctuary was constructed.  A significant addition was completed in 2000, which included an enlarged narthex, seven classroom education wing, bright open nursery, library, parlor and a fenced in play area.  We will continue to grow as necessary to meet the needs of our members and visitors.

What We Believe

Some of the principles articulated by John Calvin remain at the core of Presbyterian beliefs. Among these are the sovereignty of God, the authority of the scripture, justification by grace through faith and the priesthood of all believers. What they mean is that God is the supreme authority throughout the universe. Our knowledge of God and God's purpose for humanity comes from the Bible, particularly what is revealed in the New Testament through the life of Jesus Christ. Our salvation (justification) through Jesus is God's generous gift to us and not the result of our own accomplishments. It is everyone's job - ministers and lay people alike - to share this Good News with the whole world. That is also why the Presbyterian church is governed at all levels by a combination of clergy and laity, men and women alike.
