Prayer Shawl Ministry is Launched at First
Presbyterian Church, Gulf Shores, AL.
A shawl wraps around a person giving warmth and comfort, just as God's
love does. The people making the shawls knit in simple patterns of
three in a Trinitarian fashion. From beginning to end the shawl is
made with prayer for the one receiving it, that they might sense the
nearness of the Lord and know His loving care, meeting their needs as
He knows best, reminding them that they are not alone. The recipients
are people in need: sick people, lonely ones, people who are
suffering, and people who have a new cause for joy and celebration.
Lorna Ver Merris Baker has brought the vision and leadership for this
new ministry to Gulf Shores from her home in Michigan. She is an
experienced teacher, knitter, quilter, and many other things. She
will guide the ministry while she his here this winter, with the hope
and prayer that God will nudge someone locally to take up the needles
when she goes back north.
Time: first Tuesday each month, from 9:30 to 11:00.
Place: the parlor of the First Presbyterian Church of Gulf Shores, AL
Bring: 2 Skeins of Lion Brand, Homespun yarn for each shawl, and size
15 or 17 knitting needles.
Come ready to enjoy fellowship and to minister by prayer and this act
of compassionate ministry to people in need of God's loving touch.
